Kami no Ebi『神の海老』

神の海老

Higher salinity, more umami

It takes a lot for a Japanese professional to call something “god-like”, but that’s what they’ve done for these special prawns.

Grown in Ecuadorian waters with higher salinity of 4-5%, versus typical seawater of 2-3%, these prawns have an exquisite taste with a strong shrimp flavour, subtle saltiness, and 1.5 times the umami of regular prawns.

ASC-certified Sustainable

These special prawns are certified sustainable by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), which envisions a world where seafood farming plays a major role in supplying food and supporting local communities across the globe while minimising negative impacts on the environment.

Expertise & Shokunin spirit

Kami no Ebi is the culmination of Torei’s 30 years in the shrimp business, with a focus on all processes from site selection, aquaculture, processing, and shipping.

Prawns are carefully raised by 100% seawater aquaculture at a farm that draws in clean sea water. The growth is slower, but they grow larger, plumper, and with 1.5 times the umami of regular shrimp.

Short transport and quick freezing (5-10 minutes) locks in the freshness and texture, and they are as close to fresh as possible.
